Seeking God's Face

Psalms 42:1,2 “Like a deer drinking from a stream, I reach out to you, my God.  My soul thirsts for the living God. When can I go to meet with him?

To enter into prayer, we must seek the hearer of our prayers, God.  Jesus told us; John 15:15,16 ERV  “I no longer call you servants, because servants don’t know what their master is doing. But now I call you friends, because I have told you everything that my Father told me. You did not choose me. I chose you. And I gave you this work: to go and produce fruit—fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you anything you ask for in my name.”

He told us to go to the Father God in His name, asking anything.  So it is the Father that is listening to our prayers.  It is Jesus’ Name, earned by His obedience on the cross that gives us the authority and power, and it is the Holy Spirit leading us in the manner to pray.

Pray is not a casual duty, done just to mark off a checklist of “things done for God”.  It is a developing relationship with the Godhead.  The first step in true prayer is seeking the face of God.  Seek, look for, follow after, press into…all these descriptive words are pictures of how we seek His face.

2 Chronicles 7:14  If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
